International Muslimah Course (Level 1) Completed

Kuala Lumpur -  RISEAP Secretariat – The 13th RISEAP International Muslimah Course (Level One) ended with a simple closing ceremony at Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), on 16 April 2010.

The Closing Ceremony began with the recitation of Qur’an by the participants known in Malaysia as Khatam Qur’an.  Each participant was  required to recite few short surah (Chapter) of Qur’an with the aim to improve their reading capability and also to encourage the participants to keep up reading the Holy Book and understand its abstruse meanings.  RISEAP was pleased  to note that most of the participants were able to read Qur’an well especially Sis Chan Mye Win @ Shakila from Myanmar, Sis Song Bora @ Olar from Korea and Sis Yuki Honda from Japan who embraced Islam recently.  RISEAP appreciates their hard work and perseverance and sincerely hopes that they will continue to practice reading and become ”role models“  in their community, Insha Allah.

Director of Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque, YBhg Dato’ Hamidon Abdul Hamid who is always helpful and supportive to RISEAP activities held at IIUM, was invited to grace  the closing ceremony and gave words of advice to the participants. He reminded Muslimahs  to uphold the Islamic teachings and to enhance Islamic knowledge in order to be exemplary  Muslimahs.  He added that knowledge acquired from this one-month course is merely served as basic foundation.  It is a beginning of a journey to learn more about Islam.  He  suggested that seeking knowledge is compulsory for all Muslims. YBhg Dato’ Hamidon Abdul Hamid admired them for their commitment in broadening Islamic knowledge and congratulated them for successfully attended this course.  To show his support to the course, he also presented certificates to all participants.   RISEAP expressed its thanks to  YBhg Dato’ Hamidon Abdul Hamid for taking time to attend this closing ceremony

Sis Math Islamiyas, a participant from Cambodia who is currently a student at Norton University in Phnom Pehn, on behalf of participants, gave a few words of thanks to RISEAP for inviting them to attend the course.

Prime Minister Of Fiji Visits Kuching

Friday April 2nd, 2010 – Kuching:  Verbatim report  from Borneo Post  “Leading Malaysian home builder and infrastructure contractor, Naim Holdings Bhd (NAIM), recently donated 30,000 Fuji dollars to Fiji in response to a plea from the Fiji Government to assist the victims of Cyclone Tomas.

According to a press release issued here yesterday, the contribution was meant to assist the Government of Fiji carry out immediate relief works to ease the sufferings and hardships suffered by the residents as a result of the recent cyclone which caused substantial damage to some parts of Fiji Islands.

As a contractor with operations in Fiji, NAIM deemed it to be part of its corporate social responsibility to help the community there.

Meanwhile, NAIM’s subsidiary in Fiji, NAIM Engineering Construction (Fiji) Limited, had also not forgotten the needs of a school located near their project site. They recently gave financial assistance to the Naiyala High School athletics squad to enable them to participate in the Tailevu zone athletics competition.

Naim is currently constructing the Fiji National Highway from Waito to Wailotua on Viti Levu Island, one of the islands making up the Fijian Archipelago. The road is scheduled for completion by August next year.

The presence of their experienced personnel and construction machinery will eventually benefit Fiji by way of transfer of technology.”

RISEAP Commences International Muslimah Course (Level One)

Kuala Lumpur – Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) launched its International Muslimah Course (Level 1) on 23 March 2010 at International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur.  Ten participants from eight RISEAP member countries attended a one-month course.   The participants are :

  1. Sis Yuki Honda (Japan)
  2. Sis Math Islamiyas (Cambodia)
  3. Sis Yune Shwe Yee Win @Marium (Myanmar)
  4. Sis Umm Kulthum Mangaoang (Philippines)
  5. Sis Sirintip Ieo-Suay @ Hanna (Thailand)
  6. Sis Mazigiah Binti Abdul Kadir (Vietnam)
  7. Sis Song Bora @ Ola (Korea).
  8. Sis Chan Mye Win@Syakira (Myanmar), attached with ABIM Outreach
  9. Sis Najwa Farhana Iskhandar (USIA)
  10. Sis Nurul Hafiza Binti Saleh (HIKMAH)

This is a new series of Muslimah course conducted twice a year by RISEAP as a part of its objectives to promote and equip Muslim youth both male and female in the region with Islamic knowledge, fraternity and Islamic consciousness.  The training course also aims to  provide exemplary leadership for Muslim women based on Islamic belief and values.

This basic Islamic course (module 1) covers various subjects which are of importance to Muslim woman. The subjects cover various types of prayers, Five Pillars of Islam, Six Pillars of Iman, Aqidah, Animal Slaughtering, Janazah Preparation, Marriage, Da’wah Techniques, Personal Hygiene (haid, nifas and istihadah), How to Perform Ablution, Tayamum and Ghusl, Qur’an and Hadith.

The class is conducted by Ustaz Nik Syahriman Nik Mat, RISEAP Da’wah & Education Officer and Sis Norainida Jayus, RISEAP Women’s Affairs Officer.  Lecturers from IIUM were  also invited to give talks  on various topics.  Among them were  Ustaz Ismail Chong Abdullah, Assistant Director, Co-curricular Activity Centre, IIUM, Dr Majdan  Alias, Ustaz Amin Ibrahim from Selangor Zakat Collection Centre, Dr Saidah Abdullah, Matron Fadzilah Abdul Hamid and Ustaz Shah Kirit.

The participants were brought to visit several places of interest in Kuala Lumpur including Putrajaya with the aim to broaden their mind and horizon while in Malaysia.  The historical city of Malacca is one of a regular place to visit where they spent three days at a home stay. Home Stay is an integral part of the course.  It provides an opportunity to the participants to expose themselves with the Malay cultural activities and exotic life in rural area.

Almost all participants have good command of English language, except Sis Song Bora from Korea who is not only able to speak English but also good in Arabic.

The classes were conducted at the IIUM Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque’s lecture room. For their convenience, all participants were housed at Mahallah Asiah located not very far from the class room.
